chromatographThe Department has a Varian CP-3800 gas chromatograph with a FID detector used for the determination and quantification of organic compounds. This instrument is used for both teaching and research purposes.

Gas Chromatograph - Mass Spectrometer

Gas Chromatograph - Mass SpectrometerThe department has Thermo Electron GC Ultra Trace oven with a DSQ Mass Selector and an attachable purge and trap sample introduction system from Tekmar Dohrmann 3100 sample concentrator. This system is used for structural determination and the quantification of trace levels of organics in samples. In addition this system is also used for the determination of trace VOC in environmental samples. This instrument is used for both teaching and research purposes.

Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer

Atomic Absorption SpectrophotometerTwo AAnalyst 800 AAS spectrometers these instruments are combination units consisting of a flame atomizer (FAAS) and a graphite furnace atomizer (GFAAS) used for the analysis of high and low concentrations of metals in samples. These instruments are used for both teaching and research purposes.

Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscope

Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission SpectroscopeThermo Jarrell Ash IRIS this is a ICP-OES with a CID detector for the determination of multiple elements in a sample. The instrument has a working range from ppb to ppm concentrations. This instrument is used for both teaching and research purposes.

 

Infrared Spectroscope

Infrared SpectroscopeThe department has four FTIR instruments a Thermo-Nicolet NEXUS 470, Two MIDAC Prospect FTIR spectrometers, and a Bruker IFS 55 FTIR with a microscope attachment. These instruments are used for the structural determination of organic and inorganic compounds. These instruments are used for both teaching and research purposes.

RAMAN Microscope

RAMAN MicroscopeThe department has a Bruker SENTERRA RAMAN microscope with an additional liquid sampling probe attached. This instrument is used for the determination of chemical structure of inorganic and organic compounds. This instrument is used for both teaching and research purposes.

Thermogravimetric Analyzer

Thermo Gravimetric AnalysisThe department has a Perkin Elmer TGA-7 system used to help identify materials through the decomposition of the material at different temperatures. This instrument is used for both teaching and research purposes.

Differential Scanning Calorimeter

Differential Scanning CalorimeterThe department has a DSC-7 system used to help identify materials through the decomposition of the material at different temperatures. This instrument is used for both teaching and research purposes.

High Performance Liquid Chromatograph

High Performance Liquid ChromatographThe department has a Varian ProStar 360 HPLC system equipped with tunable UV-VIS detector used for the identification of organic compounds and proteins. In addition, attached to the HPLC is a *** fraction collector for collecting the separated compounds as they are eluted from the HPLC. This instrument is used for both teaching and research purposes.

UV-Visible Spectroscope

UV-Visible SpectroscopeA Shimadzu UV-2410 PC UV-Vis spectrometer and a HP8453 Photodiode array UV-Vis spectrometer with a 89090A temperature and stirring controller. These instruments are used for the identification and quantification or organic and inorganic compounds in solution and for kinetics studies. These instruments are used for both teaching and research purposes.

Surface Area and Porosity Analyzer

Surface Area and Porosity AnalyzerThe Department has a Micometrics ASAP 2020 Surface Area and Porosity analyzer used for the determination of the surface area and porosity of nanomaterials. This instrument is used for both teaching and research purposes.

NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) Spectrometer

NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) SpectrometerThe department of chemistry has Two NMRs a 300 MHz Joel NMR spectrometer and a 600 MHZ Bruker UltraShield Plus NMR spectrometer. Which are used for the elucidation of organic and biochemical compound structural determination. The Bruker has both 1-D and 2-D sampling setups currently. In addition, the Bruker NMR also has a micro-sampling probe. These instruments are both used for both teaching and research purposes.
