Research Summary:
K. Christopher Smith received a B.S. in Chemistry from Queen’s University, Canada in 1995 and an M.S. in Chemistry/Materials Science from Dalhousie University, Canada in 1997. In 2007 he received his Ph.D. in Chemical Education from Purdue University; he was appointed Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Texas-Pan American that same year.
Current research interests include: a) student understanding of particle structure and particle interactions on the microscopic level; b) applications of relatively accessible, low-cost instrumentation in the freshman chemistry curriculum; c) informal science education and multicultural aspects in science education; d) working with chemistry teachers towards professional development.
