Research Summary:
Elamin Ibrahim received a B. Tech degree in Chemistry from the Khartoum Polytechnic, Sudan, in 1979 and his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Mississippi State University in 1995. He joined as Assistant professor of chemistry at University of Qutar, Qutar m1996. In 1998 he was appointed Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Texas Pan American.
He has developed a graduate course for high school teachers on Environmental Science with is supported by Texas NRCC Natural Recourses Conservation Commission.
Current research interest includes investigation of Cyanobacteria pigments in the Laguna Madre by infrared attenuated total reflectance and infrared microscope. Reliable pigment analysis leads to extrapolation of a variety of variable related cyanobacteria such as nitrogen fixing capability and bacterial population. He is also collaborating with Mississippi State University and Towson University, MD on surface enhanced Raman studies of biological molecules on gold and silver surfaces in order to improve trace analysis of biological molecules in areas such as environmental analysis supported with wealth of structural information. His in house collaboration include characterization of polymers by infrared and infrared attenuated total reflectance in collaboration to compliment other material research studies related polymer diffusion and packing quality and. Also using the High Performance Liquid Chromatography to separate and quantitate isoenzymes of glutathione s-transferase which are known to exhibit a significant role in cancer prevention.
