Research Summary:
Phillip DeLassus received his B. s. in Chemistry from Valparaiso University in 1967 and his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from University of Chicago in 1972. He was a postdoctoral fellow at University of Illinois from 1972-1974. From 1974-1976 he worked for Procter and Gamble Company and form 1976-1998 for Dow Chemical Company. While at The Dow Chemical Company he attained the rank of Associate Scientist and Senior Scientist. In 1999 he returned to Valparaiso University as professor of physical chemistry. In 2002 he left Valparaiso to become Professor and Chair of Chemistry at the University of Texas Pan American.
He received the Outstanding Achievement and Promotion of the Chemical Sciences at Dow Chemical Company, Midland Section by the American Chemical Society. He is currently an Associate editor of The Journal of Plastic Film and Sheeting
Current research interest includes diffusion of small and mid-size molecules in polymers, especially as it relates to food packaging or the morphology of polymer blends. Unique area is with permeation of flavor/aroma/solvent molecules in polymer films. In addition, he is interested in separation of solid particles with agitation as functions of size and density difference.
