The purpose of Project Open Horizons, Opportunities for English Language Learners in Social Studies, funded through a discretionary grant through the Texas Education Agency, is to design and implement a professional development project intended to enhance social studies understandings, abilities, attitudes, and instructional practices of teachers serving English Language Learners in the eighth grade. All professional development will incorporate the newly revised English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS).
Participating Social Studies teachers of English Language Learners will be able to successfully deliver instruction around several dimensions of learning that constitute a framework for delivery of TEKS and TAKS.
Participants interested in applying commit to the activities of the grant from August 2009 to February 2011.
