Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)
The AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Special Research Projects Office has been funded by AVID Center since the Fall of 2007 with the goal of conducting, publishing and disseminating focused national research on AVID programs and AVID student performance. AVID is a college preparatory program for students who have historically been underrepresented in higher education. Dr. Karen Watt, Jeffery Huerta, and Patty Reyes operate the Special Projects office and will begin a new two-year contract with AVID Center on October 1, 2009. Previous research projects completed by the office include AVID teacher leadership studies, the AVID Dell Scholars study, studies of Texas AVID graduates, and the multi-state AVID student performance study. Current research projects include the African American Male Initiative, an AVID middle school study, an AVID gender disparity study, a national AVID Schoolwide study, and a national study of AVID graduates. The Special Research Projects Office is located in room 2.504.
Curriculum Assessment for Successful Student Outcomes
The CASSO Project is a research initiative funded under the United States Department of Education Office of English Language Acquisition National Professional Developmental Program CFDA 84 195 N) invitational priority#2. The goal of CASSO is to improve the preparation of teacher education program completers in the UTPA EC-4 Bilingual Education program so that they have a greater likelihood of improving the academic achievement and English language development of LEP students in Texas Education Region I area. Peer-Assisted Learning Strategies (PALS)
The South Texas Advantage Project (STAP) at The University of Texas Pan-American is committed to helping Head Start Teachers succeed by providing a quality educated program to help you achieve your dreams of becoming a Certified Early Childhood Teacher. As a student participating in this program during your Junior & Senior year, you will be provided with some Tuition & Book stipends, will have access to our Children’s Book Inventory, Course Book Inventory, teaching resources and get the opportunity to attend annual Head Start Conferences. We encourage all Hidalgo County Head Start & Texas Migrant Head Start Teachers to take advantage of this grant opportunity as you embark on your educational journey.
