Programs Offered

The Electrical Engineering Department offers two undergraduate degree plans:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCE) Website

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering is a joint program with the Department of Computer Science, and has its own website with complete information.

 

BSEE Program Overview

  • 210 current majors, and over 300 graduates working nationwide in a wide range of industries.
  • Accredited since 1996 by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)1
  • A curriculum that provides a rigorous foundation for engineering practice as well as preparation for graduate studies.
  • Modern, well-equipped laboratories, housed with other engineering programs in a 115,000 sq ft building.

Careers

Electrical engineering graduates can work in a wide variety of industries including aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics, semiconductors, computers, telecommunications, medical, and power industries.

UTPA electrical engineering graduates and interns have been hired by employers nationwide and in the Valley, including Southwest Research, Raytheon, IBM, Lockheed-Martin, Boeing, Texas Instruments, IBM, Motorola, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Intel, Sun Microsystems, Ford, Delco, Honda, Cummins, L3 Communications, T-Mobile, AMD, Lattice Semiconductor, Freescale, Samsung, Tyco Electronics, Alps, Calpine, 3M, Monsanto, Halliburton, Schlumberger, Northrup-Grumman, Pedernales Electric, Magic Valley Electric, AEP, LCRA, Johnson Controls, Eaton/Cutler-Hammer, TDK, Biotronix, Jacobs, Halff Engineering, and Coastal Engineering, among many others.

We have also had UTPA alumni admitted to graduate schools nationwide including Stanford, Penn State, University of Washington, University of Maryland, UT-Austin, UT-Dallas, UT-San Antonio, and SMU.
