There is a growing emphasis on engagement both within and outside UTPA. This can be seen in our university’s strategic plan as articulated by President Robert Nelson as well as AACSB’s growing focus on engagement and student-faculty interaction. Accordingly, this requires us to formalize CoBA’s engagement and interaction initiatives into a coherent, systematic and strategic approach with clear objectives, action items and outcome measures. As you know, the issue of engagement is not new for CoBA. For years, CoBA has consistently been the leader in the University in engagement efforts through many activities and initiatives. Examples include Bizfest, F.I.R.E, faculty-led student service learning projects, the HESTEC Business Symposium, the BizIdea and BizPlan contests, BEDES, high school recruiting efforts, the Dean’s Scholar’s Awards, the MAP program and other such activities. Increasingly, there are other emerging opportunities for engagement within the Rio Grande Valley.
One of the most important objectives of this web portal is to facilitate efficient communication and coordination among CoBA’s faculty, students and external community stakeholders that are already engaged or planning to do so in various activities and programs. This web portal includes information on our college’s engagement objectives and philosophy as well as existing and upcoming engagement initiatives. We hope that this web portal helps provide useful information on event coordinators and initiatives, updates on current events as well as planned college level engagement initiatives. Finally, the web portal also provides links to our important university and community partners. It is my sincere hope that you will utilize this web portal as you consider participating in various engagement activities with our faculty, staff and students.
