Guidelines for the Great BizIdea Showdown*

 

Why a Great BizIdea Showdown?

Great entrepreneurial ventures start out with a great idea. The UTPA Great BizIdea Showdown is designed to encourage students to come up with a great idea for a business in the hope that the idea will eventually be taken to the marketplace

Prize:  $3,000 will be awarded in various categories.

 

Who:  Open to all UTPA students, regardless of major, in groups of 2 to 5 students

 

When:  November 18 - Registration deadline. Register at www.utpa.edu/coba

             November 20 - 10am to 1pm - Idea presentations/displays

                                       3pm - announce finalists

                                       4pm - FINALS

 

Where:  Table top displays in BUAD halls, finals in BUAD 110

 

How:  3'x2' displays and 1-minute oral presentations of ideas

 

 

Judging Guidelines:  Contest entries will be judged on the following criteria.

  • Creativity
  • Profitability potential
  • Professionalism
  • Benefit to mankind
  • Potential for job creation
  • Implementation likelihood
 

Awards and voting:

  • Student Choice Award - Selected based on the number of votes each team receives from students and others who view the business ideas. Voters will choose the top 3 ideas.
  • Peer Choice Award - Selected by student teams competing who may vote once for their choice of the top three BizIdea Showdown teams.
  • Judges Award - Three teams will be selected by a group of judges, composed of individuals that are entrepreneurs, that fund entrepreneurial ventures, or that advise entrepreneurs.
 

FinalsThe 5 award winning teams will have 10 minutes to present their ideas to a distinguished panel of judges composed of individuals that are entrepreneurs, that fund entrepreneurial ventures, or that advise entrepreneurs. The judges will ask questions of the team.
