The Research and Faculty Development Committee (RFDC) of the College of Business Administration is pleased to encourage undergraduate and graduate students who have been working with COBA faculty members to submit their research papers to be considered for presentation in a poster session at the 2014 Spring Research Day (Friday April 11, 2014, 12:00-1:00 p.m.). As in previous years, this Research Day is intended to encourage and promote COBA students’ participation and involvement in research, and collaboration with faculty.


A. Important Dates for Authors

Open for Online Submissions:

Submission Deadline: The deadline for paper submissions is Monday March 24, 2014, 5:00 p.m. CST. All submissions must adhere to the guidelines presented below.
Student Presentations at the Spring Research Day Event: At least one student author of every accepted submission must present their research work in the form of a poster presentation on the Research Day Event (Friday April 11, 2014; 12:00pm – 1:00pm).

B. Submission Requirements

Each submission must adhere to the following rules.

Language: English is the language of the conference and of all submissions.

Originality: Submissions to CSRD 2014 must be original; papers that have been published or accepted for publication in a journal or conference proceedings are not eligible. Papers presented at other conferences are also ineligible, with the exception of papers presented by undergraduate students at the UTPA Undergraduate Research Conference in Fall 2013. Students must be listed as the lead author on all submissions. Collaboration with faculty is encouraged, but not required.

Formatting Requirements: All submissions must be in Portable Document Format (PDF). Save your submission using this format: “CSRD_2014_category” where category can be undergraduate, masters or phd.

Length Requirements: Research papers must not exceed twenty (20) double-spaced pages in a 10-12 point font with one-inch margins. These 20 pages include all text, figures, tables, and appendices. The cover page, abstract, keywords, and references are excluded from this page count.

Number of Submissions: Students are only permitted to submit one (1) research paper for consideration. Students listed on multiple submissions will be immediately disqualified from the competition.

How to Submit:

Students should submit their papers to the committee via our no later than Monday March 24, 2014, 5:00 p.m. CST

C. Prizes

For each level - Undergraduate, Masters, and Ph.D. - separately, the CRDC will award multiple cash prizes:

  • First Prize: Up to one (1) prize of $500
  • Second Prize: Up to four (4) prizes of $200 each
