The purposes of the C.A.R.I.R. are stated in its name. Students seeking undergraduate advisement, career counseling, or to obtain an internship are encouraged to visit the office to utilize the resources found there. These resources include software and computers for developing resumes, and accessing the Internet and e-mail. The Center is a participant in JobTrak , the nation's largest job-listing network. Students can make inquiries, place their resumes, and e-mail resumes to prospective employers.

Students can also explore local employment opportunities; with many employers accessing the COBA directly when positions are available. Postings of current positions are maintained on the bulletin board in the hallway on the second floor of the COBA building. The C.A.R.I.R. office is the liaison for firms who would like to offer employment opportunities.

Academic advisement appropriate to chosen career fields is also available and literature is maintained for each of the departments in the Undergraduate and Graduate programs.

Recruitment activities are scheduled by the center in the fall and spring terms for area high schools and local higher education institutions. The TACRO fall recruitment fairs as well as the U.T.-Pan Am Graduate and Professional Programs Fair are examples of recruitment efforts engaged in.

Internships programs exist to enable students to obtain "real world" experience while a student. These internships can be for college credit or are non-credit. Some are full time and others are part time. Some involve compensation while others do not. Students have been placed locally, as well as in other parts of the US and internationally. The C.A.R.I.R. office is the liaison for firms who would like to offer internship opportunities.

Retention programs are under development to assure entering freshmen of success in obtaining their undergraduate degrees. This includes counseling, study skills, computer literacy and written communications skills.

Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) has a website for internships and Federal Job bank at this location . Their general application is available here.
