- Appreciation of Mexican American culture within a transdisciplinary context so that students are able to express an understanding of the cultural, artistic, and intellectual knowledge of the Mexican American people.
- Gain an understanding of the central debates/issues concerning Mexican American identity as related to language, race, gender, sexualities, ethnicity, and class.
- Be able to place the Mexican American experience within the larger context of the Américas.
- Develop an appreciation and understanding for the scope and breadth of Mexican American history.
- Students will gain an understanding of how the past of Mexican Americans have prepared them for the opportunities and challenges they face in contemporary society.
- Students will develop an understanding concerning the emergence and history of Mexican American studies and its call to action and responsibility on behalf of the community.
- Students will prepare a research project on any topic related to Mexican American Studies.
