  • The rankings for the number of Bachelor's degrees awarded Hispanics at UTPA academic program are as follows (Hispanic Outlook 2006) -
    • 1st in English Literature
    • 2nd in Foreign Languages
    • 6th in Visual and Performing Arts
    • 9th in Communications
  • UTPA maintains a state-of-the-art Fine Arts Auditorium for a variety of student and community performances and the Albert L. Jeffers Theatre for an extensive theatre production schedule.
  • The University of Texas Pan American’s award-winning Mariachi consistently wins first place in the National Mariachi competition and is recognized by the Texas House of Representatives and the Texas Senate for promoting the music and traditions of the Hispanic culture.
  • The College of Arts and Humanities offers modern art studios for ceramics, jewelry/metals, painting, sculpture, printmaking and graphic design as well as a complete TV study that includes two sound stages - - all enhance the student’s learning and personal development.
  • UTPA has three art galleries on its main campus, two showcasing work of nationally known artists as well as outstanding student work and the other housing the University’s permanent collection.
  • College of Arts and Humanities: Nationally Recognized Programs and Services
    • College of Arts and Humanities: The Theatre Program in the Dept. of Communication is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST).
    • College of Arts and Humanities: The Department of Modern Languages and Literature has a collaborative agreement with Ocean University in China to develop a Spanish language program for Chinese students and a Chinese language program for UTPA
    • College of Arts and Humanities: The Department of Modern Languages and Literature sponsors regional, national and international academic journals including: Southwest Journal of Linguistics, Grafemas (Latin American Women's studies), Hipertext(Hispanic Studies), and RiBrav(Border Studies).
    • College of Arts and Humanities: The Department of Communications' 2005/06 edition of Panorama, the college's magazine, won first place in the American Scholastic Press Association. Student (Brenda Hernandez) won the most promising minority student in advertising by the American Advertising Federation (AAF).
    • College of Arts and Humanities: The English hosts a Summer Creative Writing Institute, publishes a student literary magazine called the "Gallery".
    • College of Arts and Humanities: The internationally renowned UTPA Mariachi holds the title of "Outstanding College/University Mariachi" for winning twelve first place awards at annual national mariachi competitions.
