The Center for Online Learning, Teaching and Technology (COLTT) provides UTPA students with the resources needed to succeed using Bb Learn.

Blackboard Learn On Demand Learning Center for Students

Students can login to Blackboard Learn On Demand Learning Center (Students) to get the help they need. Blackboard On Demand Learning Center provides step-by-step how-to videos under such broad topics as Working In Your Course, Staying Organized and Communicating, and Setting Your Preferences and Controlling Your Environment. The videos are free, interactive and will help students better understand the Blackboard Learn environment.

Students can also login to Blackboard Learn Help Center for Students.  Blackboard Help’s searchable topics and step-by-step instructions will help students find the information that they need about Blackboard Learn.

Student Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. Password Problems

a. Students who cannot log into myUTPA may have to reset or change their password. This can be done through utpa.edu/password or by contacting IT support at (956)‐665-2020 or in person in the Academic Services Building Room ACSB 1.102.

The COLTT cannot reset or change passwords for UTPA student accounts.

b. Students with a Blackboard account created for a specialty or Continuing Education course who cannot log in through the Blackboard login page will need to contact the COLTT help desk by emailing the COLTT, calling us at (956) 665-2979, or stopping by our office in the Education Complex Room EDCC 2.202.

 

2. Download the Lockdown Browser.

a. To download the lockdown browser, go to http://www.respondus.com/lockdown/information.pl?ID=721834533

b. Select Windows or Mac

c. Select Your Own Computer

d. Click on Download Installer – Server 1 or Download Installer – Server 2.

e. Run the Software.

f. If you would like help, please contact our COLTT help desk at (956) 665-2979.

 

3. Blackboard page will not load by clicking the Bb icon from myUTPA Applications area.

a. Make sure your browser allows pop-‐up windows.

b. Update the version of Java on your computer. 

i. Go to java.com.

ii. Click on the Free Java Download button.

ii. In the next window, click on Agree and Start Free Download button.

iv. When you log into Blackboard, a pop-up window will appear, see image below.

v. Click Run.

 

4. My course does not appear in Blackboard.

Our department performs enrollment updates daily. If you added a course after the semester began and do not see your course listed in Blackboard, please allow 24 hours for our enrollment process. After that time, if your course still does not appear in your course list, we may need to manually enroll you into the course in Blackboard.

Please contact our help desk by creating a Student Help Request, emailing the COLTT, calling us at (956) 665-2979, or stopping by our office in the Education Complex Room EDCC 2.202.

For all correspondence, please include a brief description of the problem, your full name, UTPA username, UTPA student ID, and the course section (ex. HIST-2313-01-Fall2012).

 

5. The Lockdown Browser froze while taking an exam.

If you are not able to complete a quiz or exam because the lockdown browser is not responsive and will not allow you to continue to the next question, you must restart your computer.

Do this by holding down the power button on your computer for five to ten seconds until the computer completely turns off. Restart your computer and try to complete your exam.

If you are not able to complete your exam, please contact your instructor to explain the issue.

We are not able to reset assessments without direct written permission from an instructor.

 

6. Tegrity videos will not play

a. Make sure your browser allows pop-­up windows.

b. Verify that Windows Media Player is up to date.

c. Install Microsoft Silverlight

d. If using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome, install the Windows Media Player Plugin.

e. If you are still not able to play Tegrity videos on your computer, Please contact our help desk by creating a Student Help Request, emailing the COLTT, calling us at (956) 665-2979, or stopping by our office in the Education Complex Room EDCC 2.202.

7.  When I log into the Lockdown Browser to take a take a test, quiz, etc. for my course in Blackboard learn, I am prompted for a password, but my instructor said I don’t need one. Why?

When you first open the Lockdown browser, you must select Blackboard Learn @ UTPA if your course is in Blackboard Learn.

Once you select this option, you will not be prompted to enter a password when opening an assessment.
