Driver issues

Sometimes you may get an error message upon starting Second Life that claims your drivers are out-of-date or unsupported. First, download the latest drivers for your graphics card and install them. If you've recently done so and have the latest drivers, uninstall them completely, then reinstall.

Reducing Lag in Second Life: In your Second Life Application:

• top menu select Me
• Preferences
• Graphics tab
• select Low
• Then click Apply.

In-World Tips

Setting your home site

First time users often find themselves in certain in-world islands that they may not want to be.

TIP: Make UT-Pan American your Home Site so you can immediately teleport back to our island.

How To:

• In the Second Life Application
• In the top menu options select WORLD.
• Then click on SET HOME TO HERE
• When you want to teleport back to the university island select TELEPORT HOME or theHouse icon on the top menu.

Landmarking your class site

Think of Landmarking as adding something to your favorites or bookmarking in a web browser. You can create landmarks of different places you have visited that you want to return to. It is a good idea to do the same for your class site.

How To:

1. Go to your class site in Second Life
2. On the main menu, select World
3. then select Landmark This Place
4. a Window appears on the screen, in that window there is an option to change the title, label it your class number, ex. "CIS 101".
5. Click Save
6. The window changes, now move your landmark you created to the Favorites bar
7. If you are successful, you will see a link on the top right of your screen with your landmark name.
8. Use this window to teleport back to the class if you wonder out.
