Career Options

The field of rehabilitation offers a wide variety of career options to qualified individuals. Graduates of the Rehabilitative Services Program are qualified to enter a variety of rehabilitation settings. Due to different factors including a lack of trained professionals in the Rio Grande Valley, Program graduates have been in demand by employers. Due to the broad nature of this field, graduates have become employed in many different agencies and settings. Typical job duties include case management, counseling, job development and placement, independent living, vocational assessment, private practice, job skills training, and special education.

The Program faculty maintain close contacts with area agency personnel which helps facilitate job placements. An updated Job Posting Bulletin Board helps disseminate job opening announcements to students.

Agencies that currently employ Program graduates include:

  • Texas Rehabilitation Commission
  • Texas Commission for the Blind
  • Rio Grande Valley Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse
  • Independent School Districts
  • Texas Department of Human Services
  • Texas Youth Commission
  • Tropical Texas Mental Health/Mental Retardation
