Undergraduate Admission Procedures
Although any student may self declare Rehabilitation as his or her major, students are formally admitted to the Program for the final two years of academic preparation.
Admissions Procedures
- Criteria for Admission to the Rehabilitative Services Program:
- minimum 2.0 GPA
- completion of a minimum of 40 semester credit hours; and
- Application Process
Students seeking admission into the Rehabilitative Services Program should apply prior to the year in which they will be classified as university/college juniors (60 hours). Applicants must provide the following by April 1st of the year of the application:
- a completed application form;
- two letters of recommendation using the Program's recommendation form; at least one must be from a university/college instructor outside of this Program and the other from a different individual (not a family member or a friend; a suggestion is from an employer). The individual providing the recommendation should mail the completed recommendation form to the Program ; and
- transcripts from universities other than UTPA must be official.
- Selection Process
After application material is reviewed, a face-to-face interview will be scheduled with the prospective candidates. The interview will be with the Admissions Committee. Admission to the Rehabilitative Services Program is competitive and based upon a rating system using the following criteria:
- completion of all application material.
- grade point average.
- evaluation of recommendation letters.
- face-to-face interview.
- satisfactory progress toward completion of the prerequisites for the upper division Rehabilitation courses (REHS 2301, 2311, 2331- also listed as PSY 2331).
Students will be notified of the Committee's decision prior to the end of the Spring semester in which they apply. Applications are typically accepted and new students are admitted only once a year, although later admission may occur depending upon openings.
