Welcome from Chair
Welcome to the University of Texas-Pan American Nursing Department Web page. Nursing is a wonderful and fulfilling career with many employment opportunities in the booming health care industry and we are glad that you are interested in our nursing programs. UTPA is the second largest Hispanic-serving institution of higher education in the United States and our Nursing programs have been recognized several times by Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education for educating a large percentage of the Nation’s Hispanic nurses.
The Nursing Department has a very rich history of producing successful, professional nurses since 1969. The Nursing department was created with a vision to educate professional nurses to provide quality nursing care to the residents of the Rio Grande Valley, the State of Texas, and beyond. Although our nursing programs have evolved over the years to include graduate nursing education, our mission remains the same. The Nursing Department is committed to educating professional nurses to meet the health care needs of a culturally diverse society and develop practitioners with critical thinking skills who will provide culturally competent, holistic nursing care.
We have accomplished many things since 1969 and look forward to the future with much optimism for greater success. We know that UTPA’s nursing programs will continue to grow and evolve and are glad that you may want to be a part of this momentum. Thank you for taking the time to visit our Web site. I encourage you to continue to explore the nursing educational opportunities that our programs have to offer.
